Ways I can help

Company that feels personal, not clinical.

Every service is unhurried and built around the senior as a person—their routines, stories, interests, and comfort.

01

Companion Visits

We can spend time talking, taking a walk, or playing cards and board games. There’s always room for a little joy, too—catching snowflakes on our tongues in winter, stopping to smell the flowers and making sure the bees are OK too.

I can also help with light meal prep, laundry, or errands such as groceries. If your parent would like to see and chat with family, I can handle the technology and get everyone connected on FaceTime or a video call. Visits are available at home, in assisted living, or in a care home.

And if there’s a furry family member in the house? I’m a dog mom myself, so I’m happy to walk the dog, feed the pets, or just give them some love while I’m there.

$40/hour · 2-hour minimum
02

Appointment Companion

I’ll drive your parent to medical appointments, sit with them, and send your family a written summary afterward. If it’s the right time of day, we’ll do a drive-through run for tea too!

$45/hour · 2-hour minimum

One small thing: parking fees, if any, are the family’s responsibility — happy to keep receipts so there are no surprises.

03

Check-in Calls

Regular check-ins by phone or video (FaceTime)—whatever the senior and family prefer—plus a family update after every call, so you know how they are doing even when you live far away. Whether your loved one is across the country or just across town — I've got you covered!

$150/month weekly · $275/month twice weekly
04

Story Keeper Session

Their stories, written down in their own words—a lasting keepsake for the people who love them. Oh, the stories we will tell!

$175 per session

(Includes a 1.5-hour recorded interview and a beautifully printed keepsake folder, so your family has something tangible to treasure.)

05

All Ready To-Go Binder

Final wishes, power of attorney, health wishes, accounts, and important information organized gently in a binder I provide. So that when you're gone, all your loved ones have to do is remember you.

$225 · binder included

Please note: Avonlea offers companionship and wellness check-ins, not medical or personal care. No bathing, toileting, medication, or house cleaning.

Meet Jill

I love people and their stories.

“I’m a PEI girl at heart—that’s where Avonlea comes from—and I’ve called Calgary home for almost 30 years.”

I’m a mom of three, an animal lover, and a dog mom. I started Avonlea Companions because I believe being truly seen and listened to matters at every age.

Good questions

Why not just call yourself?

Absolutely! But life gets busy, and the calls slip. Meanwhile, your parent won't tell you when they're lonely or unwell — they don't want to worry you. Sometimes it's easier to share those things with someone outside the family.

I'm the same warm voice, every week, without fail. A gentle wellness check, and a short update to you after every call, so you always know how they're doing.

You're not buying phone calls. You're buying consistency, an extra set of eyes, and peace of mind.

But I'm already caring for them myself...

That's beautiful... and exhausting. Caregiver burnout is so real, and it doesn't mean you love them any less. Having someone share the load isn't giving up. It just means you get to keep showing up with love instead of running on empty.

What makes Avonlea different from a larger agency?

Fair question! Those reviews tell you the agency is solid... but they can't tell you who'll actually walk through your mom's door. With me, you know exactly who you're getting — and we can have a free 20-minute chat first so you can decide for yourself. I'm new as a business, but I'm not new to caring for people — caring for people has simply always been my work. I'm a certified death doula, too, and I have character references if you'd like them. Everyone starts somewhere — and my first families get the most grateful version of me.
